One Charging Gantry, Ten Charging Points

The charging gantry forms the central element of the new electric bus buffer being constructed next to the renovated bus station. Once operational, ten electric buses will be able to charge simultaneously beneath the structure. With this, the Municipality of Groningen is taking another important step towards emission-free public transport and a sustainable, future-proof infrastructure.

The charging system operates fully automatically. Once a bus is correctly positioned, it connects to the gantry and the charging process begins. This enables operators to deploy their electric buses efficiently without any additional manual intervention.

Where Engineering and Design Come Together

The charging gantry was designed as a distinctive element of the renewed station area. Standing approximately six metres high and spanning around seventy metres, the structure makes a striking impression on its surroundings.

TruSteel Industry delivered the complete steel structure, which was transported to Groningen in three separate sections. These sections were then assembled and installed on site.

For the transportation of the structural sections and the lifting operations on site, TruSteel Industry worked closely with KTF Harlingen. Due to the size and complexity of the gantry, the project required careful planning, preparation and execution.

From Steel Structure to Complete Charging Facility

With the installation of the charging gantry, an important phase of the project has been completed. The steel structure took approximately six months to manufacture and install on site, from production through to final assembly.

In the coming period, work will continue on the further development of the charging facility. This includes the installation of staircases, the electrical connection, cables, pipelines and technical systems.
