On the former Belcanto site in Haarlem, Rootz is taking shape: a new urban district where living, working and green spaces come together. An important part of Rootz is the above-ground parking garage. It meets the parking needs of the new residential district and has been designed with a focus on functionality, appearance and reuse.
The development is part of the transformation of Schalkwijk Midden into an attractive, future-proof living environment. More than 670 homes are being developed, complemented by commercial facilities, communal spaces and areas for social interaction. Under the City Among the Trees concept, the focus is on creating a green and healthy living environment. The public spaces will feature abundant greenery and accommodate a diverse range of users. Sustainability and circularity also play an important role in the development.

Designed by architectural firm wUrck, the Rootz parking garage provides 382 parking spaces, including facilities for shared mobility. The building features a split-level design, allowing the different parking levels to connect efficiently.
The architecture complements the green character of the new urban district. Timber slats give the façade a natural appearance, while a pergola with vegetation on the roof contributes to the greening of the building. The orientation of the slats also varies from floor to floor, creating a distinctive visual connection across the façade.
For the construction of the Rootz parking garage, TruSteel Construction is responsible for several key structural components. The work includes the steel structure, installation of TT floor elements, concrete walls and wall cladding. Together, these components form the foundation of a parking garage in which functionality and modular construction are central.
Circularity was a key consideration in the design. The garage is being built using the modular ModuPark system, which incorporates prefabricated concrete and steel elements. Thanks to this modular approach, the structure and façade elements can be dismantled and reassembled at another location in the future.
