Pedestrian bridge, Royal FloraHolland

The province of North Holland, the municipality of Aalsmeer, Royal FloraHolland and the Amsterdam Transport Region have joined forces to improve the accessibility and quality of life of the important logistics route to and from the Royal FloraHolland Flower Auction and Schiphol.

With the construction of 2 new bus stops for High-Quality Public Transport (HOV), an additional entrance and exit at the Royal FloraHolland flower auction and a footbridge with stairs and elevators over the N231, a significant boost in accessibility has been given to the region.

Sustainable and circular pedestrian bridge

Kampstaal worked together with Ballast Nedam Park and Connect on this project to realise the new 140-metre-long pedestrian bridge over the Legmeerdijk. The pedestrian bridge consists of wooden bridge sections (girders) and has the longest wooden beam girder in the Netherlands.

Kampstaal produced, delivered and installed the stairs including balusters, railings and handrails. These steel structures can be dismantled and reused elsewhere. By building the bridge in a circular manner, the province of Noord-Holland, the municipality of Aalsmeer, the Amsterdam Transport Region, Royal FloraHolland and the construction parties involved are fulfilling each other's objectives to build in a circular manner.

Efficient travel

Few travellers used the bus stops on the Royal FloraHolland site in the current situation. For this reason, the Amsterdam Transport Region wants to reduce the travel time of travellers by, among other things, moving the bus lines to the route over the N231 and creating bus stops along the N231. The new pedestrian bridge allows bus travellers and pedestrians to cross safely. After completion, more than 2,000 travellers will use the new connection every day.
