Protective posts Prinses Margrietkanaal, Lemmer – Delfzijl

The main shipping route Lemmer-Delfzijl is one of the most important waterways in the Netherlands. Several bridges and civil structures located over the Prinses Margrietkanaal are due for maintenance.

Improved protection

Nauta Heeg, in collaboration with Knol Akkrum, has installed protective posts for the bridges near Ald Skou, Uitwellingerga, and Spannenburg. Thanks to these protective posts, the bridges are better protected against frontal collisions, reducing the risk of serious damage.

During the production process, welding process 121 was used, where a solid wire is applied to the structure under a powder shielding gas.

The six protective posts were produced simultaneously in our production halls. The tubular structures were first preprocessed and then finished. During the production process, welding process 121 was used, where a solid wire is applied to the structure under a powder shielding gas. The approximately 24-meter-long protective posts were manually blasted and preserved. In mid-2023, all protective posts were installed on-site. Before transportation, the structures were fitted with UHMWPE and Trespa signaling plates.
