Kampstaal, TenneT and CroonWolter & Dros have joined forces to reinforce the 380kV high-voltage substation in Diemen. Despite the fact that the substation was already reinforced in 2021, research shows that the 380kV high-voltage connection Diemen – Ens will be overloaded around 2030.

Electricity grid developments

The heavy 380kV high-voltage lines form the highways of the high-voltage network in the Netherlands. They transport large quantities of electricity over long distances. For example, a lot of electricity enters our country from Eemshaven and is transported to other places (in the Netherlands and abroad) via the Diemen – Ens connection, among other places. Due to the construction of wind farms at sea, solar parks on agricultural land and the generation of electricity in our immediate vicinity, despite the capacity increase, more electricity will soon flow through the high-voltage lines than the 380kV stations can handle.

Our proceedings

In order to continue to facilitate the developments from the energy transition, the Dutch electricity network must be adapted or expanded. For example, we are producing all the steelwork for the 380kV high-voltage station in Diemen, which will be used to reinforce the substructures of the distribution field.

The project is being carried out in phases. Phase 2 has already started. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
