Commissioned by the Province of Fryslân, we renewed the Follega Bridge in 2021. The bridge, originally built in 1961, was due for major maintenance. The mechanical and electrical components were outdated, and hairline cracks had formed in the movable deck. We renovated various parts and replaced some components entirely.
The renovation work progressed smoothly. Over a period of five months, intensive work was carried out in our production halls on this impressive project. In March 2021, the new tower structures were transported and reinstalled in their original positions. In early April, the largest components—the counterweight and the movable span—were installed. Due to the installation of these bridge parts, the road was temporarily closed. By mid-April, the bridge was once again operational for both road and maritime traffic.
Five months of intensive work went into this great project in our production halls.
The bridge is as good as new and ready for another 50 years of service! Alongside the renovation, the bridge was also converted to remote operation from the control center It Swettehûs in Leeuwarden. From this location, 17 bridges are operated remotely.
