Hitland Pumping Station, Hollandse IJssel

On behalf of Van Hattum en Blankenvoort, we are building the new Hitland Pumping Station! The pumping station will improve water management in the Hitland polders’ water compartments (Esse, Gansdorp, and Blaardorp). The new station is being constructed on the municipal boundary between Capelle aan den IJssel and Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, next to the old pumping station, which no longer meets today’s requirements and standards.

Pumping station wells

For the outlet of the pumping station, we produced a strut frame and mounted it on site to the sheet pile wall. This structure provides stability and ensures that the walls of the pumping station well do not collapse under the pressure of the soil and/or water outside the excavation pit. For the inlet of the pumping station, we installed compartment bulkheads, cover beams, plastic grating panels, ladders, and railings.

The pumping station was built using technology that protects nature from the effects of climate change.

Sustainable pumping station

The pumping station was built using technology that protects nature from the effects of climate change. A water inlet has been installed to allow clean water from the Hollandsche Polder to flow in—an important feature during prolonged drought or when the quality of ditch water deteriorates.The pumping station is also capable of discharging more water, which is beneficial during periods of heavy rainfall. In addition, the new pumping station brings numerous sustainable improvements. It will generate renewable energy for its own use and is equipped with a fish-friendly pump and a fish passage, enabling fish to migrate between the river and the adjacent ditches.
