Commissioned by Jorritsma Bouw, we fitted roof and wall cladding to Aldi’s new distribution centre in Groningen in 2022. The supermarket chain opted to relocate to Groningen from Friesland in mid-2020, looking for premises that were more modern and sustainable, and more centrally located in the region.
The distribution center
The building that makes up the new distribution centre covers an area of around 38,000 m² and has a capacity of 450,000 cubic metres. There are 76 docks where the company’s 29 lorries load goods twice each day. The Groningen distribution centre supplies Aldi’s northern supermarket network with products. The site has its own car wash, filling station and garage for lorries. There is also considerable refrigeration space. The distribution centre accommodates different types of office and storage space, which we fitted with sandwich panels.
Roof and wall constructions
We fitted the outer walls of the distribution centre and cold storage with 12,100 m² of steel sandwich panels, mounted horizontally to the rear structure. We also mounted around 36,400 m² of galvanised and profiled steel sheet to the roof.
