We partnered with Ballast Nedam to complete the P3 car at Schiphol Airport. This smart car park combines functionality with robustness and aesthetic quality. Completion of car park P3 increased parking capacity by 2,600 spaces between 2015 and 2016. In 2017-2018, an extension was added to double the number to 5,200 parking spaces.
Quality and construction speed
Car park P3 is a rectangular volume of around 135x32x21 metres (LxWxH), with a main staircase of 12x11.5x22.3 metres. The car park structure is based on the standard construction system used by Ballast Nedam for car parks. The system has provided ample experience, thereby guaranteeing the intended quality and requisite construction speed.
A light and airy design
The limited construction space meant that part of the substructure had to be made using Fundex piles. The superstructure is constructed with steel columns, girders and concrete floors. Steel reinforcement provides stability in the cross and longitudinal directions. The façade consists of a grid of galvanised steel slats. The lower floor of the car park is unenclosed, which makes the building seem less solid and almost as if it were floating. The structure allows ample natural daylight into the building, while the semi-open façade allows for natural ventilation.
A robust steel-concrete structure, for which we fabricated, supplied and assembled the modular steel structures, fencing, façade grid, stairs and spiral staircases. The roof and wall cladding were installed by our sister company Kamplacon.
