Special stainless steel guide plates
Commissioned by Levvel, we are currently working on a collaborative project to expand the sluice complex along Afsluitdijk. To ensure water discharge capacity, additional drainage and pumping capacities were created at Den Oever. Two groups of sluice gates were then constructed in the ‘intermediate’ islands of the existing sluice complex. Machinefabriek Emmen produced special stainless steel guide plates for the sluice gates and delivered them to the site. These guide plates are made of duplex material. The new sluice gates are tasked with draining water towards the Wadden Sea at low tide, without adding additional energy. In an earlier project, we also constructed guide plates for the fish migration channel. This channel runs straight through the Afsluitdijk.
Pot, slotted and tapped holes
In June 2022, we began production of 384 stainless steel guide plates with a dimension of 55 mm and thickness of 45 mm. The raw plates firstly underwent thorough inspection in our production halls, whereupon a sliding surface was applied through milling. The plates were then fitted with blind, slotted and tapped holes. In addition to the guide plates, we also produced and supplied curved and welded corners and coupling and closing plates.
MF Emmen complies with all certifications
Rijkswaterstaat maintains sets of guidelines and requirements for the construction and maintenance of engineering structures, such as bridges, sluices and viaducts. Machinefabriek Emmen complies with all certifications that are required to carry out work on ROK (Richtlijnen Ontwerp Kunstwerken – Guidelines for the design of works of art) projects up to execution class 4.
The first delivery was made in early 2024. At Machinefabriek Emmen, we are proud of our partnership with Levvel and the fact that we again were allowed to collaborate on a piece of Dutch heritage.
