Working under the GOVA (Groot Onderhoud Vaarwegen – Major waterway maintenance) banner, Rijkswaterstaat is to dedicate the next few years to maintenance work on waterworks across the southern Netherlands. Working in partnership with DEME Infra, Nauta Heeg was commissioned to replace and refurbish fendering and guideways on the Mark sluice in Oosterhout.
The constructions
We produced and preserved 160 metres of guideway on both sides of the Mark sluice – the Wilhelminakanaal and Markkanaal sides. These guideways act as funnels, guiding shipping towards the Mark sluice. We installed a total of 670 metres of civil structures in the two waterways. We were also commissioned to produce the fendering for the same location. The fendering has a total length of 160 metres, followed by 30 metres of mooring site for recreational shipping. Our engineers carried out assembly on site.
A TruSteel collaboration
The companies in the Trusteel Group often work closely together, as demonstrated by the footbridges making up the ZN3 GOVA project. The footbridges were produced by sister company Machinefabriek Emmen on behalf of Nauta Heeg. The latter then applied preservation to the new structures afterwards. Transport was provided by our sister company Kampstaal.
All structures were transported by pontoon from Heeg. All work was completed by the end of 2022.
